Working with impasto, Canadian artist Kristine Moran fill with lavishing color and thick paint her imaginary settings. Painting becomes a creature invading rooms, gardens, streets. Praised by Artforum and represented in NY by Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, Moran is a rising star.

The UN Ceiling – Miquel Barceló

On November 18th, the Spanish government officially presented Miquel Barceló’s latest art installation in the UN’s Palace of Nations in Geneva. The controversial work of art is a massive sculptural installation located on the domed ceiling of the building’s newly created Human Rights and Alliance of Cvilizations chamber. the work consists of multi-coloured stalactite forms that appear to be dripping from the ceiling. However controversy over how the work was paid for has overshadowed its artistic significance. Designboom has the article and more photos.

Paris Life Models Protest Naked

Paris life models went on strike yesterday and posed naked in freezing temperatures. They are fighting for a pay increase, proper contracts and respect for their craft. The models got the sympathy of politicians – the Deputy Mayor was himself once a model. Read the full article on The Huffington Post.

During his lifetime Alexander Calder produced approximately 1,800 pieces of brass, silver, and gold body ornaments, often embellished with found objects such as beach glass, ceramic shards, and wood. This bracelet is to die for and you can see it (just see it) at The Metropolitan Museum until March 1, 2009.

Museum of Islamic Art by I.M. Pei

Qatar’s new Museum of Islamic Art, designed by the famous American architect I.M. Pei, opened to the public Monday. It’s Qatar’s chance to compete with Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the realm of arts and culture. Pei, 91, known mainly for his Louvre pyramid, had his design inspired by Islamic architectural history.
