Cy Twombly – The Rose

Cy Twombly is alive and kicking. His beautiful show, The Rose, is on until May 9th at the Gagosian in its London location. Five large paintings take the white space with bursting tangerines, turquoises and pinks. At 81, Twombly keeps showing freshness and vitality.

Chino Otsuka Double Self-Portraits

1982+2005, Paris, France

Chino Otsuka’s Imagine Finding Me series combine old photos of the artist’s family album with recently shot ones. The poetic images are an open window into Otsuka’s nostalgic memories. Through June 6th at the Daiwa Foundation, London. My source was Noah Kalina’s blog (check ‘Blogs I like” on the right.)

Eduardo Kac – Natural History of the Enigma

Edunia

Natural History of the Enigma, transgenic flower with artist’s own DNA, 2003/2008

Mostly known for his fluorescent rabbit that made art hit the news pages back in 2000, Eduardo Kac now is part of his own work of art. His Natural History of  the Enigma is a transgenic flower created using the artist’s DNA, represented on the red veins in its petals. This touches so many modern issues that is hard to start listing. Edunia, the flower, will be shown together with a large sculpture, drawings and seeds at the Weissman At Museum, opening April 17th.

Marilyn Minter: Green Pink Caviar

Green Pink Caviar is Marilyn Minter’s first short movie. She has been playing on the edge of fine and commercial art for years and this video is part of Chewing Color, a video exhibition curated by her in Times Square. It explores the boundaries between disgust and beauty and I found it very, very sexy. Check the trailer here.

A Website to Explore: Banksy

Banksy  is much more than the corrosively funny graffiti you can find pretty much everywhere on the internet. For some unexpected and still very irreverent images go to the source: banksy.co.uk
